Chapter 340 George Stancy's Trouble
George Stancy. Deputy Chief of the New York City Police Department, the main jurisdiction is concentrated in the management of Queens, while assisting in the management of Upper Manhattan. This is an old policeman who has been in the police force for nearly thirty years.
In the years since he became chief of policing in Queens, the security situation in Queens has actually improved dramatically. Although it is impossible to completely isolate crime, the number of serious cases such as homicide shootings has dropped sharply.
And drug dealers rarely trade drugs in Queens, and the most crimes in Queens are to catch a few guys selling marijuana. New York banned the sale of marijuana, but the penalties for selling marijuana are not severe.
Generally, it is dozens of hours of community service and a fine.
George is a smooth but good policeman who abides by the bottom line of morality. If he wasn't tactful, he wouldn't be the deputy commissioner of the New York City Police Department.
George? Stancy's character tends to be more rigid and a little serious. One of the most powerful men in all of New York City, George had a demeanor when he was serious.
It's just that the old policeman has encountered some troubles in recent months. His daughter, Gwen Stancy, whom he regards as the apple of his eye, is in love. Well, Gwen was going to be eighteen soon, and for a girl that age, being in a relationship wasn't such a big deal.
The main thing is that George, the object of Gwen's love, is not very satisfied. Peter Parker, a poor boy from Queens, his family almost exhausted their efforts to support him in a private high school. Of course, it was not that George looked down on the poor boy.
You know, before he made his fortune, he worked as a low-level police officer for nearly ten years. At that time he knew every guy with a criminal record in his jurisdiction.
He's been able to rise from the bottom up and work his way up to the top of New York City, and he's sure other young people at the bottom can do the same.
It's just that he didn't know why he disliked Peter Parker so much when he first saw him. Peter has a bit of a glib vibe, and often says things that don't make sense.
George hoped that his daughter could find a more stable boy to fall in love with.
Although Gwen assured him again and again that Peter only sometimes spoke a little wildly, but he was still very reliable. He was also appreciated by Dr. Connors, and he has done a lot in science.
But George still doesn't believe that Peter is really as good as Gwen said. Women in love were always stupid, and he was always afraid that Gwen was being cheated by this kid.
However, Gwen has always been a child with opinions, and even her parents cannot change what she believes. Since she had decided on Peter as her boyfriend, George could only accept it.
Because if Gwen's temper was really provoked, she would just leave home and move out. You must know that she was paid as an intern at the Osborne Group before, which is different from other interns.
She has a deposit of her own, which can even cover her expenses for a year or two. She can completely leave the family's finances and go out to live independently.
If Gwen really moved out, and even went to live with Peter Parker, then it would be the worst thing for George.
So as a father, he can only repeatedly warn his daughter to keep a clear mind at all times. Don't run away with others just because of the boy's casual sweet talk.
Of course, in addition to family matters, George also has a lot of troubles at work. The most disturbing of these are the superheroes operating within the jurisdiction.
Iron Man doesn't care about street crime, Tony only cares about international affairs. So Iron Man has nothing to do with George.
The Punisher and the Nightcrawler are basically going after some of the toughest gangs in America, including those dealing in drugs and underground arms. This type of gangster is almost on the verge of a terrorist organization.
They are hard to catch, and hard to convict if caught. They had been some of George's worst offenders. As mentioned earlier, George is an honest policeman who dislikes criminals very much. It has always been his responsibility to bring these criminals to justice.
So although there are some complaints about the methods of the Punisher and Nightcrawler, especially when many things they do are on the verge of legal vigilance. But George still turned a blind eye to the two of them.
Because he knows that sometimes, the wicked need to be tortured by the wicked. There are some things that the police can't do openly, but crimes do happen, and George hopes that someone will stop them.
In fact, there is only one hero who really bothers George, and that is Spider-Man who flies around New York City every day. This person is really annoying!
This guy who claims to be a good neighbor to New Yorkers flies around New York City every day looking for street criminals. And George wondered how this guy was listening to the police radio.
In many cases, the police have just received reports from the police or criminals, and he can always rush to the scene as soon as possible. Or faster than the police.
There have been many times when the police have labored hard to find the location of the criminal gang, only to find that those guys have been completely bound by Spider-Man with spider webs.
Sometimes Spider-Man will leave a note on the scene. "Don't thank me for your help, your good neighbor: Spider-Man!" Who the hell wants your help! Thinking of this made George very angry.
Many cases that the police have been fully sure of have been caught by Spider-Man first.
This makes many policemen who have worked hard for half a month, or even months and a half years, feel that everything they have done is useless.
It's very, very demoralizing. Is it really necessary for many excellent police officers to feel that their efforts are really necessary?
And the worst thing is the outside world's doubts about the police. Many people are questioning that the recent decline in New York's crime rate is because of these superheroes.
Some small media who are afraid of chaos in the world have accused the New York police of inaction. George has several excellent detectives who don't want to do it. They all want to leave their jobs and become instructors in private security companies.
Because Spider-Man did all the work they had to do, it made them feel that the police profession could no longer bring any sense of accomplishment and honor. If it's just about making money, the wages offered by outside private security companies are significantly higher.
And what makes George even more angry is that his daughter Gwen Stancy is still a fan of Spider-Man.
So now the two people who make George angry the most are Spider-Man and Peter Parker. Thinking of this, George was in a bad mood.
There was a knock on the door, and it was George's assistant who came in.
"Head, here are the materials for this year's general election. Where do I need to put them?" The assistant was a black woman in her fifties who had retired from the front-line police position after being injured.
"Whatever Nancy. You know I'm just running with you. No one expects me to be elected." George waved his hand, signaling Nancy to put the materials wherever he wanted.
"If you are elected, you must know that the entire police department, and even the police officers in New York, support you. If you are elected mayor of New York, you will definitely be completely different from those other politicians. You are more shrewd and tough .” Nancy said these words with sincerity.
But to George, that sounded a bit flattering, so he shook his head. "Forget it, I don't have anyone to support me behind my back, you have to know..."
At the stall where George was talking with his assistant Nancy, there was a commotion outside.
"What are you going to see?" George asked Nancy. Nancy nodded and went out, returning after about five minutes.
"A convenience store robbery," Nancy said to George when she came back. "A suspect in a convenience store robbery has just been arrested for robbing a store clerk at gunpoint."
The noise outside hadn't stopped yet, George frowned. "How much money was robbed?"
"Only fifteen dollars." Nancy shrugged. When George heard the amount, he couldn't help but rolled his eyes and said. "This idiot, he pulled out his gun in order to rob fifteen dollars. Does he know how long he will be in jail?"
"That's the problem, chief. He denies he committed robbery. Because he left a twenty-dollar bill at the scene. And only got fifteen dollars. So he insists he's just asking the clerk for change."
"Huh?" Nancy's words opened George's eyes a little.
"And he was caught by Spider-Man, and he is now clamoring to sue Spider-Man." Nancy couldn't help but support her forehead.
