Warhammer: In the Name of Ashes

Chapter 35 Witness and Inheritance

The door of the conference room was opened, and Calvin and 10 paladins who had been waiting outside for a long time entered the conference room one after another.

All the officers present stood up and looked at Calvin to show respect.

A group of high-ranking officers, led by the Supreme Mentor Walden, looked at the young man in front of them.

They seemed to see the hope of the Legion in him, and the possibility of realizing the strategic decision made by the Emperor on the direction of mankind for the last time before he sat on the throne.

He is not only the hope of the Grey Knights, but also the hope of the future of the Human Empire.

Walden pushed aside the crowd and walked in front of Calvin, saying to him: "Young man, maybe you don't know the significance of your arrival to us, but now you should understand your specialness to us in a certain sense. I don't ask you to understand this now, but after the common will of all of us, we hope to witness your final trial of joining the group. So, what is your opinion on this?"

Calvin looked at the people in front of him with solemn faces like pilgrims, and vaguely understood that this was an important event beyond his imagination.

He did not hesitate too much. His military instinct made him straighten his already huge body and responded to the Supreme Grand Master in front of him: "It is also my honor!"

The Supreme Grand Master Walden was waiting for this sentence. He looked back at the people behind him, and then waved his hand concisely: "Let's go, the Hall of Fear."

After that, he took the lead and led Calvin and the officers and paladins (champion swordsmen of the warband) behind him to the last obstacle, or the procedure, before Calvin joined the warband.

The Hall of Fear is located at the same deepest level as the burial ground guarded by the ferryman brothers. Except for the occasional trial of new recruits, few people visit here.

Like the burial ground, they are the closest places to the unspeakable demon seal under Titan.

This is a special place that the Grey Knights discovered after they came to Titan after the establishment of the army.

Also because of the special nature of this place, the evil thoughts and fragments emitted by the unique demons here are also used as a place to identify the purity of new recruits.

The Grey Knights recruits who successfully hold on here for 48 hours will have their beliefs recognized by the entire regiment.

So, this is the last threshold for recruits to the welcome dinner for recruits in the Victory Hall; or, it is also a convenient way to the burial ground separated by a wall.

Today is different from the past. Led by the Supreme Grand Master Walden, a luxurious team of 10 Grey Knights' highest-ranking officers, 10 champion swordsmen (paladins) and our protagonist Calvin came here.

Before entering the hall, in order not to interfere with this ceremony, everyone except Calvin put on a special cloak that blocks psychic vision.

Then, led by the Supreme Grand Master, the whole team entered in a circle and sat at the edge of the hall.

The center point of the circle is Calvin's position. They accompany and monitor Calvin here for a long 48 hours.

During this time, no matter what kind of temptations and interferences the demons put on Calvin, they will not intervene.

Only in the worst case, when it is confirmed that Calvin has fallen, will they rise up and execute him in the end.

But everyone in this hall knew the upcoming test. For those who could complete the "Holy Blood Trial" head-on, the difficulty of the 48 hours in this room would probably be easier than sitting in meditation.

This is also the case. Not long after Calvin sat down, some demon fragments who didn't know whether to live or die tried to approach Calvin.

Then, the moment the protagonist noticed it, they were annihilated by his gaze...

There were also greater temptations, but only a few times. After resisting Calvin's gaze, they barely touched his body, and then they made valuable contributions to Calvin's soul repair without any suspense.

They were shattered in wailing, and all the souls and energy attached to the fragments were plundered.

When they tried to reborn from the marks they left in the subspace, something more interesting happened.

In the eyes of these low-level demons, this plunder was originally just a short-term setback. As long as they could return to the subspace, they could be resurrected there with the help of the remaining marks.

What they couldn't see was that in countless timelines, the same Calvin had plundered the same people in the same way.

So, when all the possibilities represented by all the timelines were all brought to one point by Calvin, who was like a cable binder, they, who had no possibility of resurrection in the cause and effect, disappeared forever.

It was a peaceful night, and the demons sealed underground never felt threatened, as if these fragments had never existed.

It just instinctively felt that the guy wearing human skin on his head was not an existence he could try to usurp.

And as one of the representatives of the countless power fragments of the evil god in the subspace, its sudden weakening naturally caused the evil god to peek into reality.

But after several fruitless attempts to patrol and search in the long river of time, the evil god could only retreat unwillingly.

He could not find any traces of human beings in the long river of time, and finally he could only conclude that he had never had the power represented by these fragments, or he had fallen into the calculations of his "peers".

So, in the depths of the distant warp, with the angry howling of a huge figure on a brass throne, an eternal holy war between gods and gods began meaninglessly.

No reason was needed, just like the countless wars they had fought before.

48 hours passed in a flash, and in the eyes of the Grey Knights whose bodies were stronger than mortals, this was just a short meditation.

And in their eyes, Calvin's counterattack against the demon invasion seemed to be no different from theirs.

As the brass clock at the door rang, everyone slowly stood up. And Calvin, who heard the ringing, also woke up from the meditation that began in the second half.

Calvin was taken by Walden to the auditorium on the top floor of Titan facing Terra.

After entering the chapel, everyone spontaneously stood in order along the red carpet on both sides, waiting to witness the arrival of the great moment.

Here, under the witness of the sacred Titan sword in the middle of the auditorium, he was given the original Holy Shield Power Armor. (In order to find parts that match his huge body, the equipment sergeants of the regiment temporarily removed some suitable parts from the vacant Holy Shield Dreadnought Armor.)

Then, Walden pulled out the short sword that he always wore at his waist and inserted it into Calvin's waist.

Walden turned around, holding the Titan sword on the reliquary, and solemnly recited the oath that had been passed down for thousands of years:

"Use faith as armor!"

"Use faith as armor"

"Use faith as a shield!"

"Use faith as a shield!"

"Arm our souls with pure nature!"

"Arm our souls with pure nature!"

"I will show the majesty of the Emperor with this body!"

"I will show the majesty of the Emperor with this body!"

"I am the Holy Grey Knight!"

"I am the Holy Grey Knight!"

"I am the enemy of Chaos!"

"I am the enemy of Chaos!"

When the last oath sounded throughout the chapel, behind Calvin, everyone in the chapel also knelt on one knee in a solemn atmosphere.

In the solemn and sacred candlelight in the chapel, they and Calvin repeated the last oath:

"I am the enemy of chaos!"

Book friends, please don't learn from me, because I feel sorry for affecting you because of my underworld schedule. Here I still want to say it again:

Don't stay up late, staying up late is the "privilege" of us coders

Good night, every friend who likes this book.
