Chapter 585 Perfection and Imperfection
"Father?" A voice called out from his ear, and the illusion of memory in front of Fugen was shattered. He blinked his eyes, and tears fell down his perfect cheeks and fell to the floor.
"Father?" Another call, this time the voice was clearer, with guilt and fear in the tone. Fugen looked at Ekenex, the captain who had followed him in Byzas, kneeling on the ground. He was trembling, like a puppy about to be abandoned by his owner.
Fugen tried to reach out and comfort Ekenex, and then stopped in mid-air, and his hand did not fall on Ekenex's shoulder for a long time.
"My children?"
The Emperor's Children heard Fugen's voice, and they began to cry and sob. They knelt in front of Fugen motionlessly, waiting for their fate.
Looking at the silent Fugen, Lin Fan did not press him further. He turned his head and looked at Chagatai, "Chagatai, I suddenly have a question to ask you. What if, of course, I mean if, if your legion rebelled, and you also rebelled, but you repented in the future, and your betrayed descendants are willing to follow you, what would you choose?"
"I." Chagatai frowned, he was really thinking seriously about his mental journey after the betrayal, and in the end he could only give a rather general answer, "I will lead people to fight to the death in the Eye of Terror until everyone is killed. When you betray, there is no turning back."
This answer really fits Chagatai's character, bamboo can be burned but not destroyed, jade can be broken but not changed. However, this is not the answer Lin Fan wants, but there is no one to ask in the field. Should he ask Perturabo who has already left? He might explode on the spot, and then hold his breath and dive back into the Eye of Terror to fight alone.
Lin Fan secretly glanced at Fugen, wanting to see how he would react.
Visibly, Fugen's face became paler when Chagatai finished speaking. His lips were tightly pursed, and his eyes were filled with deep sorrow and guilt, which was completely different from his confident and high-spirited state at the beginning.
Maybe the heat is enough? Maybe it's not enough? Lin Fan decided to give Fugen some strong medicine. He sighed that Chagatai was really a straightforward man, and then sighed inadvertently.
"So you say. If your legion didn't want to fall into chaos, but simply betrayed, it was you who took the initiative to embrace chaos."
"Impossible!" Before Lin Fan finished speaking, Chagatai interrupted Lin Fan's hypothesis with a decisive tone. He stared at Lin Fan with great seriousness and emphasized his position again, "No! Impossible!"
"Enough!" Fugen shouted, his body completely collapsed, and a strong sense of irony was spreading in his body, "Enough." He shook his head and sighed in his words.
He stood in front of all the Emperor's Sons, like an old hen protecting her chicks, with his head down, not daring to look at Chagatai any more.
Lin Fan knew that the situation was about to get heated, so he pointed at Fugen and shouted, "You are responsible for the Emperor's Sons becoming what they are now!"
"No! No. I won't. I won't be like him!" Fugen fiercely objected, and he swore to Chagatai that he would not be like the original Fugen, bowing to the Chaos Evil God, and the pleading in his eyes shocked Chagatai.
"Boy. You." Chagatai opened his mouth, trying to leave the last bit of dignity for Fugen, but Lin Fan's eyes shut Chagatai up.
Lin Fan continued to shout, "On the battleship! Your children tried to save you from the control of the devil! But what did you do? Not only did you fail to lead the Emperor's Children out of the corruption of Slaanesh, you also planned to take them to explore deeper and deeper extremes! It is more of your fault that they have become what they are now! It is you who want to pursue perfection! It is you who want to impose your shackles on your children! Is there any difference between you and Perturabo during the Great Crusade?"
"There is a difference! I am not him! I pursue perfection, but not that kind of perfection!" Fulgrim's rebuttal seemed a little pale, and Lin Fan's words became more aggressive, so that Chagatai couldn't listen anymore. He looked at Lin Fan again and again, trying to make him shut up, but he couldn't do it. He knew that Lin Fan knew a lot of unknown black history, and he also knew that Lin Fan tried to remove all the glorious disguises of Fulgrim in order to make him better.
But this is really too exaggerated. How much else does he know? Chagatai shuddered, and he suddenly felt that Lin Fan was so strange and terrifying. Lin Fan knew almost all the dark secrets, but he knew nothing about Lin Fan. What about his own dark history? His hesitation during the Great Rebellion must have been clearly engraved in Lin Fan's mind.
"Perfection? You pursue perfection? Don't be ridiculous. Why did Fabius choose to abandon you? Haven't you figured it out yet?"
Fugen clenched his fists, he rushed in front of Lin Fan, grabbed Lin Fan's shoulders with his hands, gritted his teeth, and his hair was disheveled, "What do you know?"
"Me? I know a lot! You told Fabius that you would lead your sons to success, and you would lead your sons to stand up from the mud. What did you say in the end? As always, the Milky Way will sublimate with you. Why does this sound so familiar? I remember you said the same thing to Lucius and the others?"
"No. That's not what I mean. I'm not him. I won't repeat his path."
"Yes, that's what you said, but a person should not be judged by what he says, but by what he does." Lin Fan held Fugen's hand in reverse, and he asked Fugen to look at the Emperor's children today, "Are they perfect? They have become crazy and turned into wild dogs that only pursue happiness. And they used to be such noble warriors. Do you remember the Phoenix Guards in Isstvan? Think about them. Look at them again. Think about your withered offspring, think about how you ordered them to be euthanized. Think about those thorns, how you exterminated them in the name of imperfection? They are imperfect. They should be..."
"Enough! Shut up! Shut up!" Facing Lin Fan's devilish whisper, Fugen collapsed a little. He suddenly found that he was essentially no different from the original body in his memory.
He didn't care that he was the shadow of a sinner, but he cared that he would set foot on that bloody road again.
