Chapter 147 Black Catches Black
"The cat is very smart. It can understand what I say and can tell me clearly what it sees."
"It tried to catch Peter countless times before, but never got the chance. Later, Peter faked his death and escaped from the boy in front of it. It told me everything and helped me steal a note with the entrance pass to the Gryffindor Common Room so that I could go in and confirm it myself."
"A few days ago, I sneaked into the Gryffindor Common Room again. Peter did escape and he was no longer with the boy."
Hearing Sirius's story, Sherlock frowned unconsciously.
"If Peter escaped, would he stay in Hogwarts?"
"Yes! He definitely didn't leave!" Sirius said gloomily, "Not only can the cat feel that he is still here, according to his character, he will not escape from here!"
"When I was in Azkaban, the other Death Eaters who were imprisoned hated him bitterly, thinking that it was because of his information that Voldemort finally lost his power and they were arrested."
"Peter himself obviously knows this. With his timid character, he will definitely leave a way out for himself. If Voldemort can come back later, he can use Harry to do something to ensure his position with him. Harry is his other life-saving straw, he will not let go so easily!"
Sirius's analysis makes sense, and Sherlock also touches his chin and thinks.
"You can try the Marauder's Map. We didn't think Peter would be in the castle before, so we didn't pay attention to whether his name appeared on the map. But if he is still in the castle, we can definitely find him on the map. If the map doesn't have it, but we can be sure that Peter is still in Hogwarts..."
Sherlock turned his gaze back to the Forbidden Forest, and Sirius and Lupin followed his gaze.
"Then the most likely place for him to hide is still this forest." Lupin finally said in a deep voice.
Sirius stared at them and asked.
"Marauder's Map? I remember that thing was taken away by Filch a long time ago? Not long after we left the school?"
Sherlock also looked at Sirius.
"Did you get this map when you were in school?"
Lupin shook his head and smiled bitterly.
"Sorry Sherlock, I haven't had time to tell you about this. The Marauder's Map was actually drawn by us. After Sirius and his friends learned Animagus, Hogwarts Castle had no secrets for us. We walked through all the secret passages, and then drew them all out, used magic on them, and finally turned them into the Marauder's Map."
Sherlock also suddenly realized it at this time.
"It turns out that the makers shown on the map are the four of you, Moony, Padfoot, Prongs and Wormtail."
Then Lupin helped answer Sirius's question.
"The Marauder's Map later fell into the hands of the Weasley twins, who then gave it to Harry. A few days ago, Snape caught Harry using the map to go to Hogsmeade through the secret passage, and found the name of the maker on the map, so he called me over, and I took the opportunity to take the Marauder's Map away."
"Snape? Is he also in Hogwarts?"
"He is the head of Slytherin and the professor of Potions."
Sirius obviously disdained this. His attitude towards Snape did not change even with his age, and he was not like Lupin who had any regrets about what happened back then.
"Well, now is not the time to talk about these things. We should go back to the castle immediately and use the Marauder's Map to see if we can find Peter's trace."
Lupin suggested.
Sirius looked a little hesitant. He didn't know if he could go back to the castle with Sherlock and the others.
Sherlock also obviously discovered this problem, and he drew his wand.
"Change back to a dog first, I'll change some things for you, so that you won't be so conspicuous when you come into the castle with us."
Sirius cooperated and turned back into a black dog.
Sherlock tapped his wand at him, making his hair fluffy and smooth, and changed his fur color to gray and white. Combined with his already fierce eyes, he looked exactly like a certain breed of dog.
"This way you won't be as conspicuous as a black dog. After bringing you to the castle, we can announce to the public that we brought you in to facilitate the capture of Black, because dogs have a more sensitive sense of smell."
Lupin praised Sherlock's wonderful attention.
"Perfect! Use Black to catch Black, no one will suspect that the dog being tracked is actually Black himself!"
With that, they took Sirius out of the Forbidden Forest and returned to the castle.
It was just past six in the morning, and the castle was still empty. No student would get up so early.
Sherlock and the others went to Lupin's office first, then unfolded the Marauder's Map and looked for Peter's name on it.
But the three of them carefully observed the entire map and did not see any words of Peter Pettigrew.
"Is it possible that Peter secretly found an opportunity to erase his name from the map?" Sherlock proposed a hypothesis.
Lupin and Sirius shook their heads together.
"Impossible, no one can erase their name from the map, even if they wear an invisible cloak, it will be displayed on the map."
Sherlock shrugged.
"My own name was erased by me."
Hearing him say this, Lupin and the others realized that in the office they were in, there were only the names of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, and Sherlock was not displayed on the map!
Lupin looked at Sherlock in shock.
"How did you do it?"
"In fact, it was just two simple little magics." Sherlock took out his wand and tapped the names of Lupin and Sirius on the Marauder's Map.
The next moment, it was as if an eraser erased their names bit by bit, and they suddenly disappeared from the map.
"The magic you used to make this map is indeed amazing, but the technique is a bit too old. You only need to use the spell of removing the spell and the spell of eliminating the spell to remove the names on the map." Sherlock explained, "I discovered it by accident at the time, and it worked after a casual try."
The spells used in the method Sherlock demonstrated to them were not very difficult, and any normal wizard could learn it. It's just that combining these two spells together and applying them on the Marauder's Map is something that ordinary people can't even think of.
"Even if the names on the Marauder's Map can be removed, Peter is unlikely to think of this method, and he may not even know that this Marauder's Map has fallen into Harry's hands."
Lupin guessed.
"If his name is not found in Hogwarts, it is very likely that he is hiding in the Forbidden Forest like Sirius before."
Sherlock touched his chin and asked hesitantly.
"Should we tell Dumbledore about this? It will be much easier for him to find Peter in the Forbidden Forest after he knows about it."
Sirius suddenly changed back from the Animagus form. They had agreed before that he would remain in the animal form after entering the castle, but Sherlock's question forced him to change back to human form to express his opinion.
"Don't tell Dumbledore!" he said with a gloomy face.
Lupin and Sherlock looked at each other.
They both tended to report the matter to Dumbledore truthfully. With his authority in Hogwarts and his influence on the Ministry of Magic, if Peter was really hiding in the Forbidden Forest, it would be much easier to find him.
"Why can't we tell Dumbledore?" Lupin asked.
Sirius' eyes flashed with a light called hatred.
"If you tell Dumbledore all the truth, even if he catches Peter, he will definitely hand Peter over to the Ministry of Magic!"
Lupin frowned and looked at him: "Wouldn't that just clear your name and let Peter get the punishment he deserves?"
"Not enough!" he shouted, "If he is caught by the Ministry of Magic, at most he will be imprisoned in Azkaban! Dementors are a torture worse than death for ordinary wizards, but for wizards who have learned Animagus, they are no different from normal guards! They are only interested in human emotions, but ignore animals! This is why I have been locked up there for more than ten years without going crazy!"
Sirius' eyes were filled with bloodshot.
"I want to kill him! Kill him with my own hands!"
Sherlock sighed and waved his hand.
"You two make the decision. This matter is mainly between the four of you. If you decide not to tell Dumbledore the truth, then I will keep the secret for you."
Lupin looked at Sirius with a serious face.
"You have to think about it. If you don't plan to hand Peter over to the Ministry of Magic in the end, then your crime will never be cleared! The Ministry of Magic won't even give you the chance to use truth serum. If they catch you, they will definitely let the Dementors give you a kiss. You are destined to live in anonymity in this life!" Sirius clenched his teeth tightly, and his left cheek twitched slightly because he was too hard. "I have always thought clearly! I am guilty! Even if I am caught in the end, I will admit it! But Peter must die!" Lupin patted Sirius on the shoulder and sighed. "I won't let you be caught by them. Since you have thought about it, I respect your decision." Just when they were about to discuss it, Sherlock suddenly interrupted. "But I want to remind you, don't forget your godson Harry. Maybe you don't care about your future, but he needs you more."
